Jim Walton made a generous donation of 11.2 million shares in Walmart to the Walton Family Foundation, totaling $1.2 billion. This donation topped the Chronicle of Philanthropy's list of ten largest gifts from philanthropists or their foundations in 2019.

The Walton Family Foundation is a family-led charity founded by Sam and Helen Walton, and continues to function through the donations of their children. Currently, the foundation financially supports improvements in K-12 education, the protection of rivers, oceans, and the communities they support, and various community projects in the foundation's headquarter region of Northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas Mississippi Delta.

In 1975, 22-year-old Gates was arrested in New Mexico for speeding and driving without a license. In 1997, he was arrested again, this time for running a red while driving without a license.

Gates inspiration for his incredible philanthropy may have been imparted by his parents. His mother, Mary Maxwell Gates, served on the board of the United Way.

While their father may have a net worth of over $80 billion, the Gates children will inherit only $10 million each.

Gates’ schedule is planned down to the minute, but somehow he still finds time to read 50 books each year. That’s almost a book per week.
